At the January 2015 meeting of the Library Trustees the policy on library closings was changed. The Library will no longer close based on the closings announced by the local school system. The Library Director or designee will now make the decision on when the Library will close generally because of weather conditions or conditions of the building. The February 2015 issue of Library Links has more information on this.
If you have requested a new Southwick Public Library card and have not picked it up yet please stop by at your convenience to pick it up. With your new card you can access newspapers and other resources at the Library or remotely. You can order books for delivery in Southwick or other area libraries. The Southwick Board of Selectmen on August 28, 2014 approved the appointment of Diane Caruso as the new library director. The recommendation came from the Library Board of Trustees which made their selectiion on August 8, 2014. The appointment is effective on August 30, 2014. For more information click here. Library Trustee Position
The Library Board of Trustees and the Board of Selectmen at the Selectmen's meeting on Monday October 20 selected an interim Library Trustee.
(January 2, 2015) Members of the library staff will receive training on OverDrive the ebook platform during the month of January. Following this training the library will begin promoting OverDrive to the public. In addition a workshop for the public on the use of OverDrive will be scheduled probably in February 2015. (October 23, 2014) A new Young Adult Librarian began work at the Library on Wednesday October 22, 2014. She will begin planning YA programs starting in November. See the November issue of Library Links for more information.
(October 23, 2014) The library successfully converted to the C/W Mars system yesterday. Staff have been provided with basic training on the system and multiple new computers have been installed. Library users can now use only C/W Mars library cards. If you have an old Southwick card and do not have a C/W Mars card from Southwick or another card please inquire at the Circulation Desk about getting a new card.
(October 16, 2014) The Library will be closed on Wednesday October 22, 2014 all day. This is for training and final conversion of the system to C/W Mars. After October 22 only C/W Mars cards can be used at the library. If you don't have a C/S Mars library card (used in Westfield, Agawam, Granville, etc.) visit the library for a new card.
(Update) Thank you to the large group that visited the Library on August 29 to thank Anne Murray for her 20 years of service to the library. Four of the five library trustees attended as did the Chairman of the Town Board of Selectmen Russ Fox. Mr. Fox presented Anne with a certificate from the Board of Selectmen for her years of service.
(September 25, 2014) The library currently receives a copy of BusinessWest the bi-weekly business publication of Western Mass. The annual 2014 Resource Guide was recently published and is at the library. This publication lists businesses, colleges and other organizations in the area.

(August 15, 2014) The Southwick Board of Selectmen at their August 11, 2014 meeting tabled the appointment of a new Library Director. They are expected to make a decision at their next meeting on Monday August 25.

(July 12, 2014) The current Library Director has announced that she will be retiring from her position later this year. The Library Director has served the community for 20 years, 15 years as Library Director.The Board of Trustees will announce additional information when a new Director is approved.
(July 9, 2014) Training for the new library software Evergreen has begun today for some of the library staff. When the Library has fully implemented into C/W Mars all library users (patrons) will have C/W Mars library cards. For library users that only have a Southwick library card this will involve getting a new library card. Library cards from Westfield, Agawam and other C/W Mars operating libraries will NOT need a new card. More information will be available from the Circulation Desk as the process continues. Library users will also have access to a large inventory of E-Books via the Internet. As information becomes available it will be posted on this website and at the Library.
(May 21, 2014) The FY 2015 town budget was approved at the Annual Town Meeting on May 20, 2014. This includes the library budget. This new budget will allow the library to become a full operating member of the C/W Mars library system. A number of new features will be available to library users in July and additional information will be available as it becomes available.
Thanks to the Southwick residents that supported the library efforts to increase the budget to allow for the upgraded membership of C/W Mars as well as the residents that approved the budget on May 20, 2014.
The Library Board of Trustees and library staff including the Director anticipate that the Library will become a full operating member of C/W Mars effective on July 1, 2014 subject to approval of the funding at the Annual Town Meetingin May 2014. This will allow the Library to provide additional services to library users. More information will be provided closer to the July 1 date. Thank you for the needed support regarding the necessary funding.
The Library is generally closed in the morning when schools are closed. Depending on conditions the library may open at 1:00 p.m. or 4:00 p.m. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Thanks to the staff of the Southwick Public Library, the members of the Board of Trustees, the Board of Selectmen, the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), the Town maintenance staff, the town I.T. Director, the public as well as the contractor and subcontractors for the installation of insulation in the attic of the building within the two week period. Although this has caused an inconvenience to the public and library staff the end result should be a better temperature controlled environment for all in the future.

(July 2013) We have tried to make online research of newspapers (Boston Globe, New York Times) and thousands of magazine, journals, etc. easier. You can click on the Online research tab and have access to online databases. There is no cost to use this service and it is provided courtesy of state and federal funding.
Celebration of 120 Years of Service to the Community
On July 23, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. the Library hosted a celebration event with area leaders, entertainment for children and refreshments. The event was open to the public. Clck here for a list of officials that attended. In addition reporters from the Southwick Suffield News, The Westfield News and the Republican were in attendance. More than 60 members of the public attended including a 100 year old local resident and a candidate for the position of State Representative Sam DiSanti also attended. Also attending were most of the Library Board of Trustees.
