Selling on E-Bay

On Thursday December 4 the local Post Office provided a session on how to sell on E-Bay.  The session included information on setting up an account, how to add items for sale, etc.  One copy of the information provided to the participants is available for review at the Reference Desk.  Ask the Reference Desk for more information.

Recent Library events: (sample of past events)

     Participants in the Adult Book Discussion group at the Southwick Public Library may pick up and pay for September's selection: "Remarkable Creatures" by Tracy Chevalier beginning Monday, August 1, 2011 while supplies last.

     The book is characterized by the Los Angeles Times as "Engrossing...[an] illuminating story of women finding fulfillment in shared passions and the bonds of friendship."

     The fall discussion session will begin with the Chavalier book on Wednesday, September 7, 2011 at 6:30 p.m. in the Community Room.  Interested patrons are always welcome to participate.

Computer Workshops Slated

     The Southwick Public Library will present a series of three free computer workshops for adults  beginning with a computer overview on Tuesday, July 19 at 10:30 a.m. which will be facilitated by Frank B. Quirk a retired instructor/trainer with Northeastern University whose work included teaching computer skills to adults. Registration by adult patrons in good standing should be completed as soon as possible.

     The three-program series will consist of three one-hour instruction periods in the Community Room, and on the 19th with a one-hour session on keyboard and mouse use, if needed.  The 19th will also include Internet concepts/ equipment/ terminology, Internet access and navigation, and security.

     The Wednesday, July 27, 2011 session will feature Email, creating Email accounts, ID and password, and sending and receiving.

     Finally, the Tuesday, August 2, 2011 session will concentrate on entering and editing text for word processing/resumes/forms.

     The registration form, outlining both interest and knowledge, needs to be completed in advance, and will be available at the Circulation Desk of the library. No phone registrations will be accepted.

Wednesday February 16, 2011

As part of the Picturing America series the Library hosted a program
entitled: "Spirits of 76".  This program like all programs sponsored by the Library is free and open to the public.  This particular program is funded by the Friends of the Southwick Public Library.

October 13, 2010

As part of the Picturing America series the Library hosted a program on American Indians.  It was held on October 13, 2010 with a number of local residents.  This event was held after the Annual Meeting of the Friends of the Southwick Public Library which is funding the Picturing America series.

July 13, 2010

On July 13, 2010 the Library hosted an event called Wingmasters, Birds of Prey.  The event open to the public at no cost included 5 birds including a hawk, eagle and owls.  It was held at the Town Hall Auditorium.  The event was well attended with more than 50 people attending.  This particular program was funded by the Southwick Cultural Council an organization funded in part by the Mass Cultural Council.

      February 2011

      The Library will have a display at the upcoming Southwick Home & Business Show on February 5, 2011 at Town Hall.  The event is free and open to the public.  It will be held 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.  A number of local businesses will be exhibitors and food samples will be available.  A contribution of a food item for the Southwick Food Pantry would be appreciated.  The event is sponsored by the Southwick Economic Development Commission.   For more information visit www.southwickma.info


      December 2010

      Help Decorate for Winter in the Children’s Room at Southwick Public Library

          Visit Southwick Public Library December 1-11 and brighten up the Children’s Room by decorating a set of  paper mittens to hang in the library.  Write your name and the name of your favorite winter story on the mittens and we will display them throughout the winter months.  Look for new seasonal stories, as well as old favorites, on our display racks.

       Count the Snowflakes in the Children’s Room at Southwick Public Library

          Find and count the snowflakes on display, and hidden, in the Children’s Room at Southwick Public Library on your visit during the week of December 13-18 and you will have a chance to win a jar of candy!  After finding the snowflakes, the Children’s Librarian will give you a chance for a drawing for this sweet treat.  The winner’s name will be announced on the library bulletin board on December 20.

      Library now offers new Job Hunting services online as of February 1, 2010
